Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 3½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2¼ tsp active dry yeast
  • 1½ cups warm water
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

For the Topping:

  • 1 cup pizza sauce
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves
  • Extra virgin olive oil for drizzling
  • Your choice of toppings (pepperoni, mushrooms, etc.)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough:

    In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Add warm water and olive oil. Mix until a shaggy dough forms. Knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  2. First Rise:

    Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  3. Shape the Pizza:

    Divide dough into 2 portions. On a floured surface, stretch each portion into a 12-inch circle. Transfer to pizza pans.

  4. Add Toppings:

    Spread pizza sauce evenly, leaving a ½-inch border. Add cheese and your chosen toppings.

  5. Bake:

    Preheat oven to 475°F (245°C). Bake for 12-15 minutes until crust is golden and cheese is bubbly.

  6. Finish:

    Remove from oven, add fresh basil leaves, drizzle with olive oil. Let rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
